Utilizing a Multidisciplinary Approach to Reservoir and Completion Optimization within the Woodford Shale Play of the Arkoma Basin

Foundation Energy Management (FEM) utilized a multidisciplinary approach to evaluate and optimize the development of two infill "child" wells in the structurally complex Woodford Shale of the Arkoma Basin. By integrating Rock Volatiles Stratigraphy (RVStrat) from wellbore cuttings, Measuring while Fracing (MWF) passive acoustic sensors, and chemical and proppant tracers, the study quantified the detrimental effects of subsurface faulting on rock quality, hydrocarbon migration, and water intrusion. The analysis revealed significant fault-driven communication, leading to negative parent-child and child-child fracture-driven interactions (FDIs) that impacted overall productivity. Consequently, these combined datasets enabled the operator to refine future development strategies—such as up-spacing wells, expanding geosteering target windows, and reducing stimulation water volumes—to improve capital efficiency and maximize the net present value of the acreage.
