SAFA: Consistent Execution Beats Perfect Design

Abstract

Every shale operator has strong completion designs. Yet even the best designs produce inconsistent results. Stage-to-stage and well-to-well variability remain an unavoidable reality. Seismos measures subsurface performance in real time and applies clear, operator-approved logic to guide execution decisions during the job. By quantifying how each stage responds during execution, Seismos enables teams to identify deviations early and take action before variability turns into lost value.

Key Findings

  • Consistent execution beats perfect design — the measurable gap between what operators design and what actually happens downhole is where value is lost and where SAFA intervenes
  • SAFA measures perforation friction, perforation efficiency, and Uniformity Index in real time from surface-based acoustic sensors — no downhole tools required
  • Every 0.1 UI improvement correlates to approximately $300K NPV per well, with R²=0.92 correlation between Uniformity Index and production outcomes
  • Deviations identified intra-stage enable intervention before variability compounds across a pad, protecting pad-level economics
